LIFT-A-LIMB® Lower Extremity Units are ideal for wound care, prepping, surgical procedures, recovery, casting, splinting, treatment, trauma care and edema control. Home care applications for comfortable leg, ankle and foot support post injury or medical intervention are effectively provided by LIFT-A-LIMB® Lower Extremity Units.
Medical personnel treating in Nursing Facilities and home care are traveling with these lightweight portable LIFT-A-LIMB® leg units which serve as a “third hand”. The heel does not rest on a surface and the height and degree of angle determine the elevation desired. This increases access to the heel and plantar surface of the foot with the client in a supine, side lying or prone position.
LIFT-A-LIMB® Lower Extremity Units are lightweight (3lbs) adjustable in height and angle leg supports which are easily draped for cleanliness / sterility and provide non-skid stable positioning. Adjusting knobs are ergonomically designed for minimal hand, wrist and finger stress.
Made in the U.S.A., LIFT-A-LIMB® is listed and registered with the Food and Drug Administration as a Class I Orthosis, Limb-Brace.
The Lower Extremity LIFT-A-LIMB® Unit has a non-skid base surface. It also includes a Velcro attached non-skid, fire retardant foam trough pad to further decrease pressure and increase client comfort plus one Velcro strap for additional safety/security as the need exists. The foam pad extends beyond the front and back of the trough which restricts client contact with the ends of the trough. It is highly recommended that a second foam pad be placed crosswise to protect from lateral contact.
Hospitals and Surgical Centers have purchased units for usage in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Room and Wound Care Centers.
LIFT-A-LIMB® units have been proven to be cost effective and contribute to the safety of staff and patients. Draping the units permits their usage for another patient immediately without cleaning. Pillows slip, slide and compress and are less effective than LIFT-A-LIMB® units. The budgetary cost of laundering of pillow cases and rolled sheets or blankets used for limb elevation in PAC Units can be significantly reduced.
Staff report decreased back discomfort from holding the limbs for prepping, casting or treatment. Risk of patient falls and staff back injuries can be decreased by reducing wheelchair transfers. Elevate and support the limb by placing the Lower Extremity LIFT-A-LIMB® Unit on a footstool, small low table, chair or sturdy box.
Excellent results have been reported when LIFT-A-LIMB® units are utilized with:
Wound Care
Trauma care, e.g. elevation to inhibit edema, icing, suturing, etc.
Ultrasound and Laser treatments
High and Low Energy Shock Wave Therapy treatment systems in Operating rooms and in Physicians’ offices
X-Ray equipment --LIFT-A-LIMB® unit is Radiolucent
Sports Medicine and pre/post Athletic Trainer applications, e.g taping, icing, etc.
Additional applications utilizing adjustable height and angle include:
Prone and side lying positions
Under thigh, anterior or posterior lower leg or heel
Accommodates internal/external hip rotation, knee flexion/extension and permits a partial turn and position schedule
Arthroscopic and Achilles tendon interventions
Strapping a second foam pad to encircle the limb to prohibit retraction during procedures
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Placement and adjustment of the height and angle are essential for proper and safe usage of LIFT-A-LIMB® units.
Initial adjustments are necessary to establish desired leg elevation, positioning and tension suitable for the individual user. Proper adjustments and placement on surface provide and maintain maximal stable lower extremity support inhibiting knee hyperextension.
These initial adjustments should be determined and performed by a professional caregiver, preferably a physician, occupational therapist, physical therapist or properly trained person. In some cases, self-adjustment is appropriate as directed by a professional.
