About Us

Equip for Independence, Inc. is a woman-owned corporation providing unique medical devices invented by the President, a Registered Occupational Therapist. Five patents have been issued and trademarks are registered. EFI LIFT-A-LIMB® is listed and registered with the Food and Drug Administration as a Class I Orthosis, Limb-Brace. EFI LIFT-A-LIMB® units are lightweight and portable, adjustable in height and angle with broad versatility of application with many diagnoses as well as status post injury and/or surgical intervention including extremity surgery, fractures/sprains, burns, amputations, mastectomies, etc. Height and angle adjustments can be performed using one hand and knobs are ergonomically designed for weak or arthritic hands. The versatility of LIFT-A-LIMB® units is truly unique. They are the only lightweight portable universal (Left and Right) limb supporters with multiple applications and adjustability. LIFT-A-LIMB® units have been proven to be beneficial and cost effective. LIFT-A-LIMB® units contribute to the safety of staff and patients. Hospitals and Surgical Centers have purchased units for usage in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Room and Wound Treatment Centers. Successfully maintained elevation and support of limbs promote progress toward wellness while providing comfort and prohibit complications.

LIFT-A-LIMB® units can accelerate independence and return to the workplace by avoiding cast replacement, joint stress and pain, range of motion limitation requiring additional medical treatment thereby decreasing recovery times. Many conditions are appropriate for LIFT-A-LIMB® usage, e.g.

  • Tremors as in Parkinson's Disease -- stabilization and relaxation of the arm permit improved performance of the hand and fingers.
  • Painful joints as in Arthritis -- protection and support made available while resting, working or riding in a vehicle.
  • Weakness or paralysis as in CVA/Stroke -- supports limb with less effort; inhibits shoulder joint dislocation; improves sitting stability; maintains shoulder mobility for hygiene and daily care.
  • Muscle disease weakness -- support of arms permits greater function of hands and energy conservation.
